D175: 04.30.22

Workout: Cardio
Equipment Used: Trek 7.3FX
Duration: 6.5mi

Calories: ???

Quality Level: N/A
Observations/Intel: I kind of wish I could I find, no, I DO wish I could find a relatively level place to ride in the area, but those are few and far between. I might look around for one elsewhere, though, as I'm definitely not ready for hills as of yet. The problem with going deeper into the valley is that the hills down going West are way steep, so I need to also find a route to get back, if I ride there. I may just go off exploring, as I think if I go south first and then more westerly, that could work out...still need to spend some time planning it, though, as a number of streets over that way are a little on the not super safe side for biking...I should also probably at least make a note of what time I'm starting out...it's still pretty soft there, but I was gone less than an hour and probably less than 45 minutes, but I don't know a range any closer than that.

I went in hoping for 5 laps at the park and managed 2 3/4 and the last bit, as I live a bit uphill, was murder. On the good note, I will be able to use the different gears on the crank, even though I don't really like how they shift, but I'd like to have somewhere level to do some laps and training there. I can't imagine how awful it would be without some solid time on the AirDyne leading into this. Legs were also a bit weary going in, which is definitely not helping thing and I'm about to start a week of incorporating more salads, so the caloric boost probably won't be there. Tentative plan is for the AirDyne Tuesday, but off until then, as the weather, except for maybe Monday, won't be accommodating. I need to let Legs catch up better, I guess. And stop being so much of a fatass.

Mileage on the Trek for the year now at 23.

Workout: Cardio
Equipment Used: Schwinn AirDyne
Duration: 9mi/~43 min
Driver: Yngwie J. Malmsteen - Eclipse
Calories: ???

Quality Level: N/A
Observations/Intel: Weather is too iffy to take the bike out, so as not to skip days, I decided to throw in a session downstairs, even though Legs are far from back and I'm getting racked by allergies. Obviously, a much more casual pace today, but still pretty solid. Air wasn't really tested, though energy was good throughout, as I'm working back in some of the old supps I still have from my more regular riding days. I haven't decided what I will do for extended rides yet, but it was nice to be reminded how well that stuff worked...not sure if they still produce it...it's kind of grainy, though, so I might keep looking around. If I get in good enough shape, may also try to find a riding group. Seem to be a lot of those around.

Weigh-in was 234, which is even from the last time. Mileage for the year now at 264.

Quality Level: N/A
Observations/Intel: Day was too nice for me to resist the ride around a neighborhood...it was pretty fun exploring streets, but not a whole lot of flat in the area I'm in...I think the next thing when the weather permits will be to go do some laps at the park and from there, may start exploring other parks...not quite sure as of yet. I need to work my way up to the trail. I also need to be able to spend more saddle time, which the short rides are helping with as far as my ass getting used to the seat, but not so much in terms of the endurance for my legs. I'm in an ok, but not really great riding area until I can get more bike ready...case in point, was ready to storm an intersection and my foot slipped off the pedal. I probably need to get different shoes for riding...may just use the ones for the AirDyne once, then go buy another pair for the AirDyne, as the AirDyne pedals are harder to grip than the bike.

Anyway, Trek mileage now at 16.5.

Duration: 5.25mi/~30min

Quality Level: N/A
Observations/Intel: Initially, I was not planning on counting these as workouts, but given that I'm still overly heavy, carting my fat ass around (that reminds me that I need to do another weigh-in, though diet has been way more dialed in lately) on a bike is definitely a workout, even if done casually, particularly when there is either wind or hills. Allergies were really not good today, so Air was pretty tanked, but I did a decent amount of exploring at the park. Riding there will be good, I think, as it forces me to contend with hills and if I want to take on that other trail this year, part of which goes through this park, as it turns out, then I will absolutely need to get that solved. Legs were, of course, fried fairly early in, as they're still not all the way back. It's interesting, much like running on a treadmill is way easier than running live, live biking is harder than the AirDyne, though the AirDyne is much closer to its respective analog than a treadmill is. Also, the area around me has kind of destroyed streets, which definitely limit speeds. The park does have a dedicated bike lane, which I love and I might look around for more parks with that feature. Very nice to have.

I'm trying to remember the functionality of the Cateye I have on the bike. It listed ride time as around a half hour, which is probably right, but then 5.28 miles, which I kind of think is off. The park itself is 1.4 miles and did that twice, so we're pushing 3 miles just in that, but I also did a bit off exploring off the grid and rode both back and forth to the park, so I'm going to assume it's probably pretty close. That also means I've done closer to 7 or 8 miles (I forget how quickly it adds up on a bike) prior to the Cateye, so I'm going split the difference and call it 13 miles cumulative for the year thus far and we'll go from here. Overall a pretty fun ride, though, as noted, more intense than I was expecting. I might go out again tomorrow, but if so, that will strictly be casual neighborhood riding, I think...exploration is also a lot slower than riding on a track.

Observations/Intel: Well, I thought last workout would be the last for a bit, but the fucking weather is not cooperating, pushing back grilling season now 3X. Legs were no go for the Trek for the early part of the week, but I thought Thursday would be a go and was planning a ride, but did not beat the weather before I was ready to actually go, so that was scrapped. I debated hitting the AirDye, but reverted back to the idea of an OFF week. Today, weather still shit, but I thought I could maybe take a run at sprints...getting into it, though, running a mini-sprint, after an extended warm-up, established that would be a hard no, so I threw in for a more or less "normal," albeit abbreviated workout, especially since I could not get my cassette player to function correctly. Time for a new one, I guess...assuming I can find one. I may have to hook up a stereo to the area, assuming I have power enough. Also had rough allergies this week, though Air was fine. Legs were feeling it. Tuesday is probably too shitty weather-wise to take the Trek out, so maybe another workout, maybe on OFF day, undecided as of now.

Mileage for 2022 now at 255.

Workout: Cardio
Equipment Used: Schwinn AirDyne
Duration: 7mi/~36min
Driver: David Bowie - Best Of Bowie
Calories: ???

Quality Level: N/A
Observations/Intel: This is going to be the last AirDyne workout for a while, I suspect. Legs definitely need some time off. I had an Inner Thigh tweak both Friday and Saturday and yesterday, Legs were definitely no go. Today, they were good enough to go, but just. No sprints, no duration, just basically a casual workout, like the entire thing was at warm-up pace. I meant it to go longer, but both Legs started to bark and I cut it short a bit. Air was obviously not tested.

The plan is now for the next couple of days to be off completely. Ideally, maybe the next 3 days, but that depends on weather and how excited I am to get on the Trek and get out there, which I'm pretty excited to do. I have a few routes in the area, including a bike trail I was previously unfamiliar with and which I'm not ready for yet, that I want to get out and explore, which should also give me a good idea of what mileage I've already done, though I will be estimating that. I'm planning on tracking that progress here as well because I apparently love data.

Weigh-in was 234, which is -1 from the last time I did that, which was evidently March. Mileage for the year now at 248.

Quality Level: N/A
Observations/Intel: Legs were a bit banged up today, somehow (heavy, heavy sleep the last couple of nights), so I went more casual. It's been since the end of January since I've had any sustained time off, so I'm probably due for that. The plan is now to do sprints this weekend, if Legs are go. If not, then the usual longer workout Saturday (probably) and then catch-as-catch-can with the Trek, as it should finally be warmer next week. I definitely need to dial in diet a lot better, which will probably start in earnest the week after, as next weekend is also when I'm targeting for kicking off grilling again.

Mileage for the year now at 241.

Quality Level: N/A
Observations/Intel: What I presume were allergies wrecked sleep pretty well last night, so head wasn't really in things, but Legs were good enough to go, so go we went. Air was ok, Legs got a bit cranky in there, so I decided to cut it a bit short. If I can get sleep back on track (probably need to also cut down caffeine), I may take a go at sprints again this weekend, depending on what the weather does. Outside events are going to get a bit funky towards the later part of the weekend, so next week might be more hit or miss, but if it's nice, definitely want to get on the bike and go.

Should probably do a weigh-in, but I can't seem to keep myself off the Trek if it's nice, so I guess the point is probably academic. Total mileage for 2022 now at 235. If the weather continues being shit, might be able to actually get closer to being on pace for the soft goal, though I think that consideration will probably be over after this weekend as things supposedly start to warm up again.

Quality Level: N/A
Observations/Intel: Yesterday was pretty funked out, with I'm assuming really bad allergies, so I took it off entirely, finally coming around towards evening. Too cold to ride, and my head wasn't in it. I did note that after getting the bike back from the shop, I got in a whole 2 rides before I blew another fucking tube. So, I re-acquainted myself with changing tubes. I blew so many a while ago that I got really adept and could do it somewhat quickly. I hope not to get that practiced again this time around. Fucking annoying. I may switch tires to something hardier, though, since speed is not really my major focus any longer. I did get the magnet for the mileage reader, so I'll be able to track that on the bike now. I need to do a phone upgrade (I'm so lazy) and then will install the Garmin software, which will alleviate the need for the Cateye I'm using now, but I can't realistically approach doing the biking channel this year. Too much would need to go right that isn't, but in the interim, I can decide if I want to start another YT channel, this one costing me at least $2K to being to play in...

Back in the AirDyne saddle again, Legs a bit stiff, but good enough to go. Very little sleep last night since I can't seem to bring myself to remember to take my fucking Zyrtec appropriately. Did manage to this morning, so Air was fine for most of this, which was kind of a question going in. I will be indoors for at least the next two workouts until it starts to warm up again towards this weekend, then who knows...

Mileage for the year now 228.

Observations/Intel: Still in a bit of a cold spell, one nice day is supposed to be tomorrow and I really want to get an actual ride on the Trek in if I can, so I went a bit light/short on this one. It felt casual, for the most part, though obviously it was a lot more towards intense than casual. The weekend will be back on the AirDyne, regardless of what happens tomorrow, but may be Sunday, depending on what happens. Legs were a touch sore, but Air was fine throughout.

Mileage for 2022 now at 218.

Quality Level: N/A
Observations/Intel: Got the actual bike (hereafter referred to as the Trek) back on Friday and was evidently really missing it because I took it out Friday, then again on Saturday. Lots more hills than I accounted for in this area and those are considerably more hurty on the Legs than the sprints, though I can control air a bit better with those...kinda. Anyway, of all the things I put back together with the Trek kit, I was only missing the front wheel magnet for the speedo, so I ordered another, but no idea what mileage I put on, maybe 10 miles put together both days. I don't expect a lot as those were mostly fuckaround rides, though I did get some very nice speed going a few times. The seat and the hills precluded any further riding both Sunday and Monday, though I think I could have gone yesterday. I didn't though, in anticipation of the weather changing for today...

Very cold today, so back to the AirDyne. Air was good, Legs were pretty solid, if a touch tweaky here and there. I was going to try to keep ride days the same, but clearly, if it's nice out, I'm going to have a hard time keeping myself off the bike, as I explore the area a bit...at least that's the plan. Like, I know the area from a car (and it's not at all ideal for a bike, honestly), but I'm trying to work up to some larger rides later on in the year. I might keep track of that mileage separately, but the bike rides aren't really intended as workouts per se, though I suppose they definitely are. Anyway, mileage for this is 211 for the year.
