Reading back, I see I was lamenting the lack of updates and
now notice that it’s now about 40 days or so later…ugh. A bit of stuff happened
between here and there….
First day of the convention (first week of November) show
saw me walking around for about 6+ straight hours…not solidly walking the
entire time, of course, but standing the entire time…I meant to put on one of
those step app things on my phone, but forgot…it was definitely a lot,
though…legs held up pretty well, except when I stupidly tried to go up one of
the gigantic flight of stairs…then they rather enthusiastically expressed their
displeasure and I had to gut it out…cardio wasn’t really up to the task and I
was pretty winded temporarily by that…still have a ways to go, but it’s
important to note that was after the cardio at the hotel the day before and
about 4 hours of on and off walking of the show…no headaches.
Next way was a little more walking and some white-knuckled
driving, but it was enough to scrub the workout I was half-heartedly debating.
Weigh-in the day after I returned was 249. The day after was
247. No idea what it is now. If I remember, I'll check it tomorrow.
Didn’t manage to get back to the Air Dyne because I felt a
lot like I was fighting off the cold my son had/has and I don’t like working
out under those circumstances…it may have been that I didn’t recover from the
trip as well…a couple of days later and it was pretty clear that I was
suffering from the same symptoms of my son’s cold, which started to more
manifest itself the day I left for another weeklong work trip (2nd
week of November). It never fully developed, but I definitely had neither the
energy nor interest to chance it as it was basically a super-travel week to
wrap up 2015 while I had the chance…from this point on, I’m flying to the
territory until the weather clears up reasonably enough.
The first available night after I got back was Sunday night,
but I scrubbed that too, as I was still feeling a bit tired. I hated to do it,
but it will obviously do me no good to get sick at this point. The following
night was a work function, but after I returned from the trip, I was back to
246, which was a bit unexpected, but still nice to see. I wound up scrubbing
the entire week, actually and the following week as well, as I was trying to
play catch-up with a bunch of stuff I’d put off due to all those work trips. As
that week ran into the holiday, it’s almost as it is a more or less restart
back to the beginning, especially since the week after, I finally did wind up
succumbing to that stupid cold/cough thing, right at the front of another week
long work trip…once I got back, I decided to try to rest up so I could resume
at capacity, but it seems a lot like we’re going to have to relocate residences
in the somewhat near future, so that time off also wound up being somewhat
extended…that and the stupid cold is not 100% gone, but not enough to infringe
on my patience…all in all, a much more sustained than expected layoff.
Anyway, as to tonight…
Workout: Cardio
Equipment Used: Schwinn AirDyne
Duration: ~7 miles/~30 minutes
Driver: Stuck Mojo: Pigwalk
Calories: unknown
Quality Level: N/A This was a return to things, but I don't feel my cardio dropped off much, so I tried to push a bit harder tonight...legs weren't really up to a whole lot of that, but after them seemingly taking forever to get warmed up, it was able to flow a lot better. The issue I was having with numbness is gone so far after that last adjustment, but I found another issue with a lack of support from my boxers that caused me to have to tweak things to get the workout in. It was an on-the-fly adjustment I probably won't keep and definitely will be switching drawers for the next few workouts and hope that it doesn't cause issues with my hernia surgery scar. CD player is also still not doing too well, so still considering a replacement there...
Observations/Intel: I did wind up going in to the doctor for my shoulder, which was not rotator-related but more having to do with the AC joint. X-rays suggested to him that it may be arthritis. He felt a steroid shot would help, which did for about a day, but it’s still not quite in order. I’m letting it go for now, but with the recent drop in temperatures and the corresponding achiness, I suspect he’s right about the arthritis thing. At some point, I’ll probably schedule an MRI. He did mention atrophy, which I sort of expected after that kind of a layoff and not really restricted to that area, but any surgery would necessarily have to wait until January sometime, due to already scheduled trips and maybe later still, if I wind up having to move, which is also why I haven’t scouted out gyms just yet…why torture myself, I guess. Given how off-track I currently am, trying to be in a position to hit the gym in January is pretty much out of the question anyway…
